Slashing Debt While Keeping the Motivation

Part of tackling something that seems like such a large challenge such as getting out of debt is the ability to stay motivated.  You may get excited about getting out of debt and say, “I’m going to tackle this head on and make some life changes” one day, but what happens week later?  Or a month or two later?  Do you still have the motivation?  Do you still have the drive to live a debt free life?

If you are like me it’s easy to go back to the same habits and the same thought patters.  So how can you keep you life changed and headed into a different direction?  I have no doubt that you are serious about getting out of debt and into a life of building wealth, however keeping yourself motivated is key.

“The days do not see what the years do” -old Taoist saying.  Give that some thought.  What you do every day becomes you over the years.  If you eat three maple bars a day for breakfast you are going to feel that over the years.

So getting out of debt is a daily habit.  Living a life of frugality and savings is a daily habit.  So let me suggest to you some cheap way to keep your mind in the right place each day to get out of debt.

On hulu.com you can watch Dave Ramsey for free.  Who is Dave Ramsey?  He is THE man to listen to if you want to get out of debt.  He is very inspirational.  By watching or listening to his show you will get the low down from how to deal with credit card companies to the best way to pay down debt.  The show is very fun to watch as well.  Even if you just got out of debt it still helps to watch, so you can avoid falling back to old habits.

Next go to your local thrift store and pop into the business book section.  There are so many great books there for under $2!  I myself have purchased many. Some books I’ve found for next to nothing are, “The Millionaire Next Door”, and “Rich Dad Poor Dad”, plus all sorts of books on investing and wealth building for when you do get out of debt (you must give you self motivation!)

Also if you have some friends that like to go out to eat all the time and have bad habits of spending to much money, stay away!  Or at least suggest some alternative things to do that don’t cost a lot.

Trust me when I say that the biggest hurtle to getting out of debt is the mind hurtle.  Take each month/week at a time, if you only focus at how far you have to go you may give up.  It’s never as bad as it seems.  Stay tuned for more wealth building strategies.
